Gain Control Over Your Screensavers With These Simple Steps
November 21, 2007
We all enjoy our favorite screensavers but in the same time we all hate to see that they sometimes disturb our movies, presentations and all the things we do and do not like to be disturbed from. Just read carefully this article and you will never have this problem again.
Screensavers will always prevent your monitor from burn-ins but their will be always moments when you want them to be disabled so they will not disturb you.
Sure, the best solution is to be able to disable your screensavers before any activity like the ones that I mentioned at the beginning of this article and because many other peoples did encountered this problem before us, many softwares have appeared to help us.
The one I found very simple to use because it doesn’t have many features but does the job very good is Galt Screen Control by Galt Technology. You can download this software from here: http://www.galttech.com/screenshots/screencontrol.html
It’s very simple to use. You just have to right click on it’s icon in the system tray and select your option.
You will not have to remember to enable your screensavers because you have the option to disable them for a selected time, which I found very useful.

Making the Best Satellite TV Decision
by: Michael Hizer
If you’ve watched any television in the last 24 hours you’ve probably seen an ad for a satellite television company. Often times these commercials promise many things to entice you into making a purchase. Free months of service, free equipment, and free installation are often mentioned as reasons why you should go with a particular service. These days it is extremely confusing when trying to make an informed buying decision.
There are two main companies that are currently selling satellite television service. Both DISH Network and DirecTV offer excellent programming, a clear signal, and a quality customer service experience. So, you might be asking yourself, which one is better? Good question. Let me provide a few of the differences and similarities so that you may make a decision.
Channel Selection - Both satellite companies offer similar channel selections. From my experience DirecTV offers a wider range of programming. You’ll have to decide for yourself which channels are most important and then check each provider to see whether they’re carried. If your a sports fan, both providers offer all of the MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL packages for your viewing pleasure.
What Does That Error Message Really Mean?
November 20, 2007
Surf the ‘Net for about 10 minutes and chances rate very high that you’ll encounter an error of one kind or another.
Whether the error message pops up on your own computer or on a website loaded in your browser, knowing what the error means can help you solve the problem much faster and avoid hours of frustration (especially in a situation where nothing you do will solve the problem).
The following represent some of the more common error messages you may encounter while surfing the Internet and what (if anything) you can do to correct the situation.
Error: 404 File Not Found
This means the web server cannot find the file or web page you tried to pull up in your web browser.
Almost nothing you can do will correct this situation. Try hitting your web browser’s “Refresh” button to see if the page will load. If not, email the website operator to let them know of the problem and then move on.
Error: 500 Internal Error
This error usually occurs when you fill in a form on a web page (contact form, shopping cart, feedback form) and click the submit button.

New Device Collects Pesky Pine Cones
by: Pat Munts
One of the benefits of being a garden writer is that you get all kinds of stuff to try out or read. Books, tools, fertilizers, magic fairy dust that will make anything grow; you name it. Some of it is good, some of it not so good - some of it is exciting, some of it not so thrilling. And then once in a while you come across stuff like the CONEIVORE.
The first time I saw it was when my editor handed it to me with a puzzled look. It was too big for the mail box so she had it in her office. It looked like a three-foot long piece of white sewer pipe only with yellow end caps. I had to read the name plastered on its side slowly. Was I reading this right - CONEIVORE, not carn-i-vore. The name did give me a hint as to what this gizmo does: It eats pine cones.
Yeah, right. It eats those pesky arboreal bombs that plague any Inland Northwest homeowner with ponderosa pine trees. If the wind doesn’t drop these spiny projectiles then the squirrels use them for target practice. The target? You, me, the dog, whatever, they don’t care.

Choosing the Right Batteries

Choosing the Right Batteries
by: Angela Oliver
The advent of modern technology has been amazing to help people getting things done in twice the time, and getting things delivered twice as fast. But what do we do when our technology fails us? What happens when our techny clip-board dies? Sure you can smack it a couple of times but honestly this solution will be short term and may end up only damaging your equipment. The best insurance that a battery will last you a long time is using quality components and following all the instructions.
Battery life time varies greatly depending on a number of factors. Two important factors are the number of applications and types of applications on the small appliance being used. If you want your battery to last a long time, try not to run down the battery life by overusing the appliance. If it is necessary to run multiple applications for an extended period of time, you may want to consider purchasing a larger capacity battery (if available), or purchasing an extra battery so you will always have a charged battery when you need it.

Would You Like An iPod With Your Checkup?
by: John A Thomas
When you walk into most dentist offices, you see a receptionist, a fish tank, and a magazine rack, not necessarily in that order. If my dentist has as much influence as I think he does, you may soon find an iPod rack next to the magazines.
On my last visit, my dentist, offered me an iPod as his hygienist was getting ready to do her 6-month routine. I have never really enjoyed going to the dentist. There is just something about lying still while people pull and push around inside your mouth that seems unnatural. So I was happy for the offer. I like gadgets and I also liked the idea of a distraction.
The iPod user interface is so easy and intuitive that anybody can figure it out, even if they are upside down, looking at the ceiling and have a spot light shining in their face. He had his iPod loaded with a range of music so that there was something for everybody. I soon settled into some Dave Mathews then switched to a little classic Fleetwood Mac that I do not have at home.
Mail-merging: The Principles
November 16, 2007
About mail-merging
Mail-merging is the process of merging variable data and fixed text.
Using mail-merging, you can create individualised letters, envelopes, labels and other documents without having to laboriously create each individual one.
Mail-merging naturally fulfils one of the DfES’s conditions of reducing the administrative burden on teachers, namely that when data is inputted into a computer system it should be right first time. One of the aspects of this principle is that computer data should not have to be re-entered in order to generate a different view of it.
Examples of mail-merging
The “right first time” principle can be illustrated by the number of different kinds of document that you could create using one set of data consisting of school names and addresses and Head teachers’ names:
Notification of funding allocations for anew financial year.
Invitation to a meeting.
Attendance registers for courses/conferences.
End-of-term letter.
Labels for conference packs.
Address labels for the envelopes. You can even use the same set of data (if set up properly initially) to send different letters to (for example):
Primary schools/secondary schools.
Schools that have/have not submitted their ICT Strategy.

Choosing The Right Metal Detector
by: Simon Oliver
If this is your first metal detector purchase, consider getting some professional and expert advice to make sure that you have making the right choice. Metal detectors usually come with a complete control box containing the controls, circuitry, batteries, microprocessor, and the speaker. Metal detectors also include a search shaft that connects it to the coil and the control box. A search coil senses the metal and the stabilizer is responsible for keeping the unit steady when it is moved.
Tesoro Metal Detector
There are two types of Tesoro metal detectors. The Tesoro Golden Max is a metal detector that enables you to control what you want to find. It has features such as the four tone audio ID with an adjustable Notch Filter Discriminate, great sensitivity, and comes with a full depth design. The other type is the Tesoro DeLeon, a metal detector designed for the Target Identification Detector (TID).

Seven Things to Consider When Choosing a PDA
November 14, 2007
In the early days, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) were not much more than glorified calculators with the ability to store contact information and brief notes. Now, the line between personal computer and personal digital assistant is blurred thanks to the advanced capabilities of these useful little devices.
There are plenty of makes and models to choose from in the PDA market, and finding the right model to suit an individual’s needs can be a dizzying challenge. This Tech Tip will take a look at seven basic things to consider when choosing a PDA in an attempt to help simplify the process.
Software
The software on a PDA is capable of running completely independent of your computer, but being able to share files and resources between them is one of the key convenience features. Software availability is one issue, but compatibility is another. In general, a PDA will come with one of two operating systems: Palm OS or Microsoft Pocket PC, each with its own very different approaches to running one of these devices.
